Despite not being perceived as a common part of the programs by people who are not acquainted with the deep knowledge of the computer world, databases are one of the most important components of the software, where all the data is saved, organized, facilitating the introduction of the data and then the access to the information.

In 1977, a company appeared, and the business started to change, its name used to be Software Development Laboratories (SDL), then it changed to Relational Software, Inc. (RSI) but finally in (1982): the name changed to Oracle (name that was drawn from the first important project of the company with the CIA).

Oracle was the creator of the first Relational database management system (RDBMS) in 1978 and it was written in assembly language and it also was the first version of the Oracle database; however, the version called Oracle v1 was never officially released, for this reason, the first commercial version of the database was named Oracle v2 is also trying to show that all the possible problems of the first version had been fixed and the new version was better. Since the first moment, the company has shown its power as an innovative player in the digital world and begun to launch different versions of its products: showing different advances in all of them year after year, first improving its relationship with the OS and with the user, allowing to supply the necessities of procedures in the way that the user needed and improving the relationship with the system environment. Later, the nets appeared, and the company found the best way to involve the new opportunity in the shared environment, as well as with the internet, always getting the best out of all situations.

“Oracle is not only a database vendor; it has become an entire industry”

Another interesting thing in the development of the company has been the strategy of expansion with the acquisition of many companies that would offer complementary products or competence for example: Sun microsystem, an acquisition that would allow the company to have in its folder products such as JAVA and MySQL allowing the company to expand the offer of products that had been though from the beginning and to take different opportunities from the market.

In my personal experience, Oracle has played a very important role in my professional development because as an important player in the enterprise architecture of all the companies where I have played a role as an IT director, there has always been a mount in an Oracle base. In the first one with an Oracle 10g and forms and reports of the same generation, now that I am the vice president of TI in a financial company, I must manage nearly 30 different applications of different vendors but all of that with a thing in common: all with Oracle database.

Another thing that has played an important role in my election of Oracle as my tool is that they are not only a database vendor, they have become an entire industry; they offer things like the Oracle Academy that allow people to keep informed and prepared in order to be an important part of the Oracle world or the Oracle open world that allows the best professionals to stay together and share their experiences.

Nowadays, Oracle: looking for the best options to continue as the leader of the market, is searching for the best way to interact with the new tendencies of the market, for example, artificial intelligence and expert systems, beginning to offer advanced services for the databases and its environment such as auto tunning, As far as I am concerned at this moment they have not reached yet the level of tunning that a human expert could offer but earlier than later they will reach an even surpass the level than an expert human would reach.
